Organization: SIR

The Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) is a nonprofit, professional medical society representing more than 8,000 practicing interventional radiology physicians, trainees, medical students, scientists and clinical associates, including physician assistants, nurse practitioners, radiologic technologists and paramedical professionals.
The Challenges
The Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) has developed a strategic plan for producing a curriculum designed for interventional radiology residents, called Residency Essentials. It’s a two year online program that would provide a significant share of online training materials. Universities or health organizations such as hospitals could adopt the curriculum into their own instructional programs.
The big challenge was setting up the program to enable organizations to make it available to their individual students. SIR wanted each organization to brand the self-study curriculum as its own so that when a student participated in the online program, they would see their institution-specific logo and get a personalized welcome message. Another challenge was ensuring that the SIR staff had minimum administrative effort despite the number of institutions accessing the course.

“It’s really easy (setting up and managing), the sub-portals. I assign the course to the portal, and then anybody that logs in who’s assigned to that portal gets the course automatically. Any updates we do, it’s automatic. Very simple, but very useful.”
The Benefits
With CourseStage LMS, the Society of Interventional Radiology was able to
